Tripura government prepares to launch DDU-GKY 2.0 with a ₹9 crore investment to enhance rural skill development, boost youth employment, and strengthen socio-economic growth through structured, placement-linked training for rural and tribal youths across key modern industry sectors.
The Tripura government is gearing up to launch the second phase of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) with a dedicated investment of ₹9 crore. The initiative, titled DDU-GKY 2.0, aims to create a new era of structured skill training and employment pathways for rural and tribal youths across the state.
A crucial meeting regarding the rollout of the scheme was held on Monday at the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) headquarters. The meeting, chaired by TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, brought together officials, implementing agencies, skill partners, and other key stakeholders. The discussions focused on finalizing operational strategies, training modules, placement targets, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure the programme’s effective execution.
Under DDU-GKY 2.0, the state will use ₹9 crore to provide high-quality skill training and guaranteed placement support to eligible youths. The programme aims to equip them with modern, industry-ready capabilities to help them secure jobs both within and outside the state. Officials said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating sustainable livelihoods, reducing rural poverty, and fostering inclusive socio-economic development.
DDU-GKY is a centrally sponsored initiative under the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. It plays a critical role in the national effort to enhance employability among rural youth aged 15 to 35 years, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds. By offering market-relevant training, the scheme bridges the gap between rural talent and industry demand.
The programme covers a wide range of sectors including retail, hospitality, healthcare, construction, information technology, agriculture, security services, and automotive trades. With its focus on job-linked training, DDU-GKY ensures that participants are not only trained but also supported through structured placement drives, employer tie-ups, and post-placement tracking.
Officials at the TRLM emphasized that DDU-GKY 2.0 will bring enhanced features, including improved training centers, upgraded curriculum, digital learning tools, and stricter quality monitoring. Stakeholders were instructed to follow national standards of training delivery, certification, and placement verification to maintain transparency and effectiveness.
The launch of DDU-GKY 2.0 in Tripura is expected to achieve several transformative outcomes:
1. Empowerment of rural and tribal youths:
The programme aims to help youths gain employable skills that match current market requirements, enabling them to break away from low-income traditional occupations.
2. Increased job opportunities in local and national markets:
With a focus on placement-linked training, the scheme will ensure that participants secure stable jobs in both private and government-recognized sectors.
3. Strengthening of Tripura’s skilled workforce:
The initiative will help build a stronger, more professional workforce capable of contributing to emerging industries across India.
4. Reduction of unemployment and poverty:
Skill training combined with assured placement will create long-term income sources, reducing economic vulnerability among rural households.
5. Enhancement of livelihood standards:
Improved employment prospects will ultimately uplift living standards and support the state’s development agenda.
Officials further highlighted that strict monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure accountability, track trainee progress, and validate placements. Periodic evaluations, employer feedback, and digital attendance systems will form part of the revamped supervision strategy.
