In football, India’s U-17 team pulled off a remarkable 2-1 win over Iran to qualify for the 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup in Ahmedabad last night. The hosts needed a victory to advance, while Iran needed only a draw.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, congratulated Indian U-17 team for their historic win and qualifying for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup.
In a social media post, Dr. Mandaviya praised the efforts behind the achievement, stating that the win reflects the dedication and hard work of the young players, their coaches, and the entire support staff.
The win put India level with Iran on seven points, but India finished second in Group D thanks to their head-to-head result. This will be India’s 10th appearance in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup.
