A tense night in Kailashahar’s Tilakpur area unfolded as locals detained four armed youths, triggering panic and prompting swift police action. Firearms were recovered, and the suspects were hospitalized. Authorities intensify surveillance as investigations continue into the shocking incident.

Kailashahar town in Tripura witnessed a night of tension and chaos on Sunday when four young men were detained by residents after being spotted with firearms in the Tilakpur area near Unakoti District Hospital. The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m., triggered widespread panic and raised serious concerns about public safety in the locality.

According to eyewitnesses, the four youths—identified as Dilawar Hossain, Arshad Ali, Suhel Mia, and Ashraf Ali—were behaving suspiciously while moving around the neighborhood. Locals, already alarmed by recent petty crimes in the region, quickly grew suspicious and began monitoring their movements. Within minutes, a crowd gathered and confronted the group.

Residents reported that the youths attempted to resist and escape, but the crowd overpowered them. The situation escalated rapidly as tempers ran high, and the detained youths were allegedly beaten before authorities arrived. The locals immediately informed the police and the fire service, fearing that the situation might spiral out of control.

Responding to the distress call, a fire service team reached the spot initially, followed shortly by police personnel. The youths, found injured, were rescued from the agitated crowd and transported to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities later confirmed that the four were admitted with multiple injuries but were out of danger.

Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station, Tapas Malakar, provided initial details after the incident.
He stated, “Acting on local complaints, we rushed to Tilakpur and found the four youths detained by residents. Two firearms were recovered from their possession. They have been admitted to Unakoti District Hospital, and investigations are underway.”

He further added that the recovered firearms would be sent for forensic testing to determine whether they were linked to any past criminal activities. The police are also probing the reason behind the group’s presence in Tilakpur so late at night and whether they were planning any unlawful act.

The sudden appearance of armed individuals in a residential locality has alarmed people across Tilakpur and nearby areas such as Dhepacherra. Several residents expressed concerns that such incidents reflect a growing sense of insecurity in Kailashahar, which has historically been known for its peaceful atmosphere. Locals also demanded heightened night patrolling, better street lighting, and stronger surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Eyewitnesses recounted the fear and confusion that spread across the locality as the youths were detained. One resident said that he initially thought it was a minor scuffle but soon realized the severity of the situation when he saw the firearms. Another resident expressed relief that locals managed to overpower the suspects before any mishap could occur.

Meanwhile, police officials have begun questioning the families of the four detained individuals to understand their background and recent movements. Preliminary reports suggest that all four belong to Tilakpur and Dhepacherra areas of Kailashahar, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether they have any previous criminal records.

The police have urged the public not to panic and assured that adequate measures have been taken to maintain peace. Additional personnel have been deployed in sensitive pockets, and surveillance has been intensified around residential zones. Authorities also appealed to residents to avoid mob violence and instead inform law enforcement agencies promptly when suspicious activity is noticed.

Local leaders responded to the incident, appreciating the alertness of residents but advising caution to prevent situations from turning violent. They stressed the need for improved cooperation between police and the community to ensure faster and safer responses in similar emergencies.

As investigations continue, Kailashahar remains on high alert, with residents hoping for swift clarification on the motives of the detained youths. Police sources indicated that more details might emerge in the coming days once the suspects recover from their injuries and are fit for interrogation.
