PM Modi has sanctioned ₹6.5 lakh under the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to assist three critically ill Tripura patients, announced MP and former CM Biplab Kumar Deb, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s swift compassion for medical aid cases.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned a total of ₹6.5 lakh as financial medical assistance to three critically ill patients from Tripura for their advanced treatment under the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), BJP West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced on Tuesday.

In a statement shared on social media, Deb expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for his prompt and compassionate approval of the funds, which will help the three patients undergo much-needed specialized medical procedures in time.
“Through the PM Relief Fund, a total of ₹6.5 lakh has been sanctioned in one phase to provide advanced medical treatment for three patients from Tripura. I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for his empathy and quick response,” Deb wrote.
According to the official communication shared by Deb, ₹3 lakh each has been sanctioned for Kalpana Sarkar, who is battling aplastic anaemia (Hospital No. AK27403), and Soma Ghosh Sengupta, who requires a liver transplant (Hospital No. 17510000867662).
Additionally, Baby Hridhima Chakraborty (Hospital No. 10010001156938) has received ₹50,000 in assistance to support her heart surgery expenses.
Swift Approval and Compassionate Governance
Deb mentioned that upon receiving requests from the patients’ families, he immediately forwarded their applications to the PMNRF for consideration. Within a remarkably short period, all three cases were approved simultaneously, reflecting what he described as the Prime Minister’s “consistent empathy and efficiency” in addressing the medical needs of citizens from Tripura and across India.
He further stated,
“The Prime Minister has always extended his helping hand for the medical treatment of needy citizens, particularly those facing life-threatening diseases. His compassion continues to bring hope to many families.”
Fund Utilization and Monitoring
According to the official sanction letters issued by the PM National Relief Fund, the grants have been provided to partially defray treatment costs, ensuring that the patients receive timely support while maintaining accountability and transparency. Hospitals treating the beneficiaries have been directed to submit expenditure details directly to the PMNRF office to facilitate fund release and verification.
The PMNRF, established in 1948, is used primarily to provide financial assistance to individuals in distress, especially those requiring expensive medical treatment for serious ailments, such as heart surgeries, cancer therapy, and organ transplants. Over the years, the fund has become a lifeline for thousands of patients who cannot afford critical healthcare expenses.
Repeated Acts of Empathy
Biplab Kumar Deb, who has been vocal about the Prime Minister’s welfare initiatives in Tripura, recalled that several similar requests for critical medical assistance had been approved earlier as well.
He highlighted how PM Modi’s leadership consistently prioritizes the welfare of the poor and the sick, ensuring that even residents from smaller states like Tripura have direct access to national relief mechanisms.
Deb’s bilingual post, written in both English and Bengali, received widespread appreciation on social media, where several users thanked the Prime Minister for extending financial relief to the families in need.
“Earlier also, whenever requests for medical aid were sent, the Hon’ble Prime Minister approved them with utmost compassion. This time too, he has shown his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people,” Deb added in his statement.
Relief and Gratitude Among Families
Family members of the three patients expressed their gratitude to both PM Modi and MP Biplab Deb, saying that the sanctioned aid would significantly reduce their financial burden.
One of the patient’s relatives said, “Without this timely help, we could not have afforded the treatment. We are deeply thankful for the Prime Minister’s concern for the common people.”
As part of the government’s larger people-centric welfare policy, such relief measures reinforce the Centre’s commitment to inclusive healthcare, ensuring that no citizen is left behind due to lack of financial resources.
