Tripura BJP launches state-wide Unity Marches to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, highlighting his role in national integration and Tripura’s accession to India. The marches, beginning November 10, will reinforce the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled an extensive series of Unity Marches across the state to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of India’s foremost leaders in the freedom struggle and a key architect of the country’s post-independence integration.

The announcement was made by Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee during a press conference held at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala on Sunday.

Celebrating the Architect of India’s Unity

Bhattacharjee paid rich tributes to Patel, recalling his towering leadership during the Quit India Movement and his pivotal role as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister after independence in 1947. He underscored Patel’s monumental effort in uniting over 560 princely states into the Indian Union, cementing his reputation as the “Iron Man of India.”

Highlighting Patel’s special connection to Tripura, Bhattacharjee said, “Sardar Patel’s instrumental contribution in integrating Tripura into the Indian Union in 1949 remains a defining moment in our state’s history. At a time when the region faced growing inclination toward East Pakistan, Patel’s collaboration with Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi was crucial in ensuring Tripura’s rightful place within India.”

He added that the people of Tripura owe a deep sense of gratitude to Sardar Patel for safeguarding the state’s national identity and ensuring its integration with India.

Statewide Unity Marches to Begin November 10

Building on the momentum of the symbolic Unity Run organized across Tripura on October 31, which was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, ministers, MLAs, and party workers, the BJP has now planned a comprehensive series of Unity Marches in all ten organizational districts of the state.

Bhattacharjee announced that the marches will begin on November 10 and continue through November 20, with each event covering 8 to 10 kilometers and drawing participation from thousands of BJP karyakartas, youth volunteers, and members of civil society.

The schedule for the Unity Marches is as follows:

  • November 10: West Tripura District — from Ujjayanta Palace to Hapania Fair Ground, attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and senior party leaders.

  • November 12: North Tripura and Sepahijala Districts.

  • November 14: South Tripura District.

  • November 18: Unakoti and Khowai Districts.

  • November 20: Gomati District.

Promoting “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”

According to Bhattacharjee, the Unity Marches are not just a tribute to Sardar Patel but also an extension of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India).

He said, “The initiative also reflects our state-specific goal of ‘Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura,’ focusing on harmony, inclusiveness, and development across all communities and regions.”

The marches will also incorporate messages promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, national integration, and public participation in government development initiatives.

Strengthening the Spirit of Nationalism

Senior BJP leaders attending the press conference echoed the sentiment that Sardar Patel’s ideals remain vital in today’s context, especially amid efforts to uphold unity, good governance, and public welfare in the northeastern region.

Party leaders noted that the Unity March will serve as a platform to highlight the BJP’s commitment to strengthening national solidarity and regional harmony while inspiring youth to follow Patel’s principles of dedication, integrity, and service.

“The Unity March is more than a political event—it’s a people’s movement. We want every citizen to feel the spirit of unity that Sardar Patel envisioned for India,” said a senior leader present at the conference.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is also expected to participate in several of the scheduled events, emphasizing the government’s continued focus on strengthening the emotional and developmental bond between the citizens of Tripura and the broader Indian nation.

As the state gears up for the series of marches, the BJP leadership believes that the campaign will deepen awareness of Patel’s monumental contributions and renew commitment toward building a united, strong, and self-reliant India—values that the “Iron Man” stood for throughout his life.
