Arunachal Pradesh CM Khandu reaffirmed the state’s full implementation of NEP 2020 to promote inclusive, quality education, inaugurating new infrastructure at Dorjee Khandu Government College, Tawang, and announcing enhanced merit scholarships for outstanding students.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh is implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 “in letter and spirit,” ensuring access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability across the education system.

Speaking at the inauguration of two new blocks—one academic and one administrative—of the Dorjee Khandu Government College in Tawang, Khandu said the state government’s efforts are directed toward strengthening the foundations of higher education in even the most remote corners of the state.

“With this new infrastructure, we take another firm step towards nurturing the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers from the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh,” the Chief Minister said, addressing faculty, students, and local representatives.

NEP 2020 as the Cornerstone of Reform

Highlighting the ongoing education reforms under NEP 2020, Khandu noted that institutions across Arunachal Pradesh are being realigned with the policy’s national framework to promote holistic, multidisciplinary, and inclusive learning.

“The NEP 2020 is not just a policy but a transformative roadmap for our nation’s future,” he emphasized. “We are committed to implementing it in both letter and spirit to ensure that every child in Arunachal, regardless of geography or background, has access to quality education.”

Focus on Discipline and Holistic Development

Lauding Dorjee Khandu Government College for its growing reputation as one of the most disciplined and result-oriented institutions in the state, Khandu urged students to uphold values of discipline and dedication.

“Discipline is the foundation of success,” he said. “Carry this value beyond the campus and let it guide your professional and personal life.”

He praised the college’s academic excellence, noting that it has maintained a pass percentage above 95 percent, with 100 percent results in the last two academic sessions.

Addressing Institutional Needs

Responding to a memorandum submitted by Principal Dr Yeshi Gyetsen, Khandu assured that the process for sanctioning additional faculty and ministerial staff is already underway.

He directed the Tawang Deputy Commissioner to coordinate with the principal for the procurement of furniture, boundary demarcation, and issuance of a land allotment certificate. “Funds will be made available for the construction of a boundary wall,” Khandu assured.

Recognising the role of sports in overall development, the Chief Minister proposed setting up a dedicated playground for the college near the Tawang Stadium. He also suggested repurposing old structures in the area and promised phased development of additional infrastructure.

Honouring Legacy and Encouraging Merit

The Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to the college community for honouring the legacy of his late father, after whom the institution is named. The family-sponsored Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, he said, symbolizes the commitment to rewarding excellence.

In a significant announcement, Khandu declared a major enhancement in scholarship amounts. The first prize has been raised from ₹35,000 to ₹5 lakh, the second from ₹23,000 to ₹3 lakh, and the third from ₹15,000 to ₹2 lakh, effective this academic year.

“This initiative aims to motivate our brightest minds to continue striving for excellence,” Khandu added.

Institutional Growth Since 2016

Commending the college’s leadership, Khandu appreciated Principal Dr Gyetsen and the faculty for their efforts in transforming the institution since its inception in 2016, when it operated from a temporary structure.

He described the college as a symbol of perseverance and progress in higher education within the Himalayan region, embodying the state’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of development.

Dignitaries Attend the Inauguration

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Advisor (Education) Mutchu Mithi, MLAs Phurpa Tsering, Tsering Lhamu, and Namgey Tsering, Education Commissioner Amjad Tak, and Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo.

The event concluded with a cultural performance by students, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and modern learning under the NEP 2020 framework.
