Gukesh Eliminated from FIDE World Cup; R. Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi Advance to Round 4

After an extraordinary run in 2024, a major blow to D Gukesh as he lost to German Grandmaster Frederik Svane, which resulted in a third-round exit for him in the ongoing FIDE World Cup in Goa. Praggnanandhaa R won his match against Hovhannisyan Robert and moved to the fourth round. Diptayan Ghosh exited the tournament after losing to Gabriel Sargissian. Arjun Erigaisi also went to Round 4 after drawing with Uzbekistan’s Shamsiddin Vokhidov. Pentala Harikrishna and Pranav V also went to Round 4 after their draws yesterday. SL Narayanan played a draw against China’s Yu Yangyi. The top three finishers in Goa will book coveted spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournament.
