The Election Commission today announced that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls will be conducted in 12 states and union territories under the second phase. Briefing Media in New Delhi today, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that this revision is aimed to make electoral rolls more transparent and error-free. He added that under Phase two, SIR will be conducted in a phased manner. The CEC also highlighted that the poll body received zero appeals in the first phase of SIR.
The CEC also announced that voter lists in all 12 States and Union Territories where the SIR will take place, will be frozen at midnight tonight. He added that in these states and UTs, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will distribute unique enumeration forms to existing voters. The CEC clarified that voters whose names were in 2003’s voter list, they are not required to provide any additional documents. He added that voters whose names are not in 2003’s voter list, but whose parents’ names are included in that list, they will also not be required to submit extra documents.
