In Uttar Pradesh, the 4-day-long grand finale of the Model Rocketry/CANSAT India Student Competition will start from today on the banks of the Narayani River at Tumkuhiraj, Kushinagar. This is one of India’s largest student-led space competitions organised by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in partnership with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI).
A total of 71 student teams, comprising around 600 students from various institutions across the country, have arrived in Kushinagar to participate in the competition. Of these, 36 teams will compete in the CANSAT category and 35 teams in Model Rocketry. The competition gives young innovators a platform to design, develop, and launch model rockets capable of deploying 1 kg miniature satellites (CANSATs) at an altitude of 1.5 km, simulating real-world space missions. The initiative encourages students to work on payload design, mission management, and teamwork, skills crucial to the aerospace sector.
Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Deoria, Shashank Mani Tripathi said that this competition will excite the imagination of the region and seed a culture of space awareness. He informed that Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will also grace the closing ceremony.
