Christmas celebrated with high enthusiasm, éclat

Christmas was celebrated across the state with religious fervour and éclat where not only the Christians but also the non-Christians are participating with high enthusiasm.

Since for the last two years Christmas was a lowkey affairs due to Covid pandemic people this time tried to enjoy the day to the fullest.

While Bethlehem Stars were seen hanging from many houses indicating the arrival of Jesus Christ, Christmas Tree were being sold like hotcake from city shops. From the Midnight carol the celebration began and thorough out the day people organized various programmes -in groups, in family and even individually. Picnics like pervious years were organized and all the picnic spots were reported to be heavily crowded. City bakeries and groceries sold Christmas cakes in thousands as liquor shops found bottles flying off their racks.

The food outlets -both branded and locals- had good business with children and youngsters thronging in and indulging in a buying spree.

The social media was flooded with people exchanging Merry Christmas as both Christians and non Christians greeted each other.

The most important celebration was held at Maryamnagar Catholic Parish -the oldest Church in the state which was built by the Portuguese in 1683.  The Church every year invites huge crowd and this time Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha along with local MLA and Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty visited the Church to review preparedness. Religious congregations were also held in other churches like that of Durjaynagar Church, Don Bosco Church under Agartala Dioceses and  St Paul’s Church (Baptist).

Governor Satyadeo narain Arya, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha , Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kuma Deb greeted the people on the occasion and prayed for peace and prosperity.
