Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury launched the Sharadotsav 2025 free ration scheme, providing flour, sugar, and semolina to 9.90 lakh families. The Rs 7 crore initiative aims to ensure inclusive celebrations and dignity for all during the festive season.

Bringing festive joy to thousands of families across Tripura, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday inaugurated the Sharadotsav 2025 Free Ration Distribution Programme at Fair Price Shop No. 148 in the Milan Chakra area of Agartala. The initiative aims to ensure that every household, regardless of economic background, can celebrate the spirit of Sharadotsav, one of the most vibrant festivals in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Chowdhury said, “The overwhelming gratitude we received last year echoed the spirit of togetherness. In 2025, we have expanded this initiative so that the festive light shines brighter and reaches further—embracing every household with the essence of Sharadotsav.”

Under the scheme, the government is providing 2 kilograms of flour, 1 kilogram of sugar, and 500 grams of semolina (suji) to every ration card-holding family free of cost. The effort is a part of the state government’s continuous attempt to make festivals inclusive and accessible to all sections of society, particularly the economically weaker families who rely on public distribution support.

Government’s Commitment to Inclusive Celebrations

Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the Sharadotsav 2025 Scheme is not just about food distribution but about spreading dignity and joy among citizens. “Sharadotsav is a time of joy and togetherness. Through this initiative, we want every household—especially those who rely on ration support—to feel included in the celebrations. This is not just about food; it’s about dignity and festive spirit,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s dedication to social welfare, the Minister announced that nearly 9.90 lakh families across Tripura holding ration cards will benefit from this free festive ration scheme. The state government has allocated Rs 7 crore to implement the initiative successfully, ensuring that no family is left out of the festive cheer.

“This initiative reflects our government’s commitment to stand beside the people, especially during times of celebration,” Chowdhury noted. He also added that ensuring food security and dignity for all remains one of the government’s top priorities.

A Celebration of Community Spirit

The festive distribution event saw enthusiastic participation from local residents who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government for continuing the program. Many beneficiaries said the assistance helped them prepare traditional sweets and festive meals, which are an integral part of the Sharadotsav celebrations.

The presence of several dignitaries, including Badharghat MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Director of the Food Department Sumit Lodh, and Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das, added to the importance of the event. Officials from the Food Department and local volunteers assisted in ensuring smooth and transparent distribution to all eligible households.

Minister Chowdhury personally interacted with beneficiaries, listening to their feedback and assuring them that the government remains committed to expanding welfare coverage in the coming years.

Sharadotsav: Beyond Celebration, A Message of Solidarity

Sharadotsav, widely celebrated in Tripura, marks a season of joy, devotion, and cultural unity. Recognizing its emotional significance, the government launched this special festive ration initiative to strengthen the bond between the administration and the people it serves.

By providing basic festive ingredients such as flour, sugar, and semolina, the program symbolizes more than material aid—it signifies social solidarity and shared happiness. It ensures that no one feels excluded due to economic hardship during the most joyous time of the year.

An Expanding Welfare Vision

This initiative forms part of the broader welfare vision of the Tripura government, which has been focusing on inclusive development and social justice. Over the past few years, several people-centric schemes—ranging from subsidized rations to skill training programs—have been rolled out to uplift underprivileged families and improve their quality of life.

Minister Chowdhury concluded his address by expressing confidence that the Sharadotsav 2025 Scheme will continue to build community harmony and strengthen trust between the people and the government. He called upon citizens to celebrate responsibly and spread the message of unity and compassion.
