An interstate awareness campaign titled “RUIHHLO DO” was held at Jampui Hill, Tripura, uniting Mizoram’s Excise Department and Hmunpui Church to fight drug abuse through education, community dialogue, and youth participation under the theme “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”

An interstate awareness campaign against drug abuse titled “RUIHHLO DO” was successfully held today at Thanzauva Hall, Hmunpui, Jampui Hill, Tripura. The programme was jointly organised by the Excise & Narcotics Department, Mamit District, Mizoram, and the Hmunpui Baptist Kohhran (Church), Jampui, Tripura. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of community-driven prevention efforts.

Under the powerful theme “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life,” the event saw the participation of around 135 young individuals above 12 years of age. The impressive turnout demonstrated growing public concern about the rise in drug misuse, particularly among the youth in border regions.

Representatives from the Excise & Narcotics Department, Mamit District, Mizoram, addressed the gathering and spoke about the department’s relentless efforts to tackle the drug menace through preventive education, enforcement, and collaboration with communities. The awareness team from Mamit was led by Inspector Lianhluna Pachuau (Commander), along with C/504 Lalchhanhnima, C/574 Rualthankhumi, and C/632 S. Zahmingliana.

Inspector Pachuau highlighted that drug abuse is not just a legal issue but a social challenge that demands collective effort. He urged young people to act as ambassadors of change by spreading awareness in their communities and helping peers stay away from addiction.

A Call for Unity Beyond Borders
One of the key messages of the event was the need for unity across states and institutions in combating substance abuse. Mr. Lalchhuanawma Khiangte, Church Deacon of Hmunpui Baptist Kohhran, delivered an inspiring address on the importance of cooperation between states and communities.

“Since drug and substance abuse know no boundaries, this interstate event was organised with joint efforts from the government department of Mizoram and a church from Tripura state. It is a reminder that fighting this menace requires unity, compassion, and shared responsibility,” said Mr. Khiangte.

He extended his gratitude to Mr. Lalsangzuala Ralte, Assistant Commissioner of Excise and Narcotics, Mamit District, Mizoram, for his vision and leadership in making the event possible. Mr. Khiangte also emphasized that churches, families, and schools play a critical role in shaping the moral foundation of the youth, and must work hand in hand with authorities to eradicate drug use.

Educational and Motivational Sessions
During the awareness programme, the officers conducted educational talks and interactive discussions focusing on the psychological, physical, and social impacts of drug use. Participants learned about the legal consequences of drug trafficking and possession, as well as the importance of seeking timely help for addiction.

Church leaders encouraged young attendees to adopt healthy habits, nurture spiritual values, and build strong moral character as tools to resist peer pressure. The interactive format of the programme allowed participants to ask questions, share concerns, and explore practical steps toward building a drug-free lifestyle.

A Pledge for a Drug-Free Generation
At the conclusion of the programme, all participants took a solemn pledge to remain free from drug use and to serve as advocates for awareness within their communities. Information leaflets carrying key messages and helpline details were distributed among attendees to ensure continued engagement.

The event ended with closing remarks from both officials and church leaders, who praised the spirit of cooperation and commitment displayed by the youth. They called for sustained collaboration between government departments, civil society, and religious organisations to safeguard the future of the next generation.
