Agartala gears up for ‘Mayer Gomon 2025’, the grand Durga Puja carnival, with over 40 clubs, colorful processions, and massive public participation. The fourth edition promises cultural vibrancy, festive spirit, and a spectacular farewell to Goddess Durga this Saturday.

Agartala is brimming with excitement as the city gears up for one of its most anticipated cultural spectacles—‘Mayer Gomon 2025’, the Durga Puja carnival. Scheduled to take place on Saturday evening, the event marks the fourth edition of the mega carnival that has quickly become a hallmark of Tripura’s festive calendar.

The carnival will be organized in front of Maharani Tulsibati School, beginning at 5 PM onwards, and promises a vibrant display of devotion, culture, and community spirit. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with several cabinet ministers, dignitaries, and cultural figures, is expected to grace the event, adding grandeur to the occasion.

From Puja Pandal to Carnival Stage

Durga Puja celebrations in Tripura concluded earlier this week, but the energy of the festivities is far from over. The carnival, popularly known as ‘Mayer Gomon’, is designed to extend the cultural vibrancy of Puja season, providing the people of Agartala a platform to come together and bid a colorful farewell to Goddess Durga.

According to Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, the preparations for the event have been finalized. He personally inspected the arrangements at the venue on Friday and assured that all necessary facilities have been put in place to ensure smooth proceedings.

As per preliminary information, around 40 clubs from Agartala city will take part in this year’s carnival. The number may rise at the last moment as many organizers are keen to join,” Bhattacharjee told the media.

Evolution of the Carnival

Since its inception, the ‘Mayer Gomon’ carnival has evolved into a grand showcase of art, culture, and communal harmony. The first two editions were held in front of the Agartala City Centre, drawing enthusiastic participation from local puja organizers and citizens alike. The third edition shifted to MTB Girls’ School, where the event again registered massive footfalls.

This year, organizers have chosen Maharani Tulsibati School as the venue, a central location expected to accommodate the ever-growing crowds. Authorities have ensured arrangements for traffic management, safety, and coordination to handle the anticipated influx of visitors.

Carnival Highlights

The event will feature a colorful procession where puja organizers from various clubs will participate with vibrant tableaus, cultural displays, and thematic presentations. For better coordination, the organizers have divided the participating clubs into nine zones.

The grand procession will begin from the venue and move through key city routes—Kaman Chowmuhani, Post Office Chowmuhani, Paradise Chowmuhani, and Battala—before proceeding towards Dashamighat, the site of immersion.

Every year, the carnival reflects not only the devotion of worshippers but also the creativity of artisans and the unity of the community. Local residents and visitors eagerly wait for the chance to witness the elaborate decorations, rhythmic beats of dhak, and artistic portrayals of cultural themes.

Anticipated Success

Past editions of the carnival have witnessed unbelievable crowds lining the streets, transforming Agartala into a sea of colors and music. Organizers expect an even larger turnout this year, given the growing popularity of the event.

It has become a platform where tradition meets modernity, offering locals and tourists alike a chance to experience the vibrancy of Tripura’s festive spirit.

As dusk falls on Saturday, the city will once again come alive with lights, sounds, and joyous cheers, making ‘Mayer Gomon 2025’ another chapter in Agartala’s evolving cultural legacy.
