PM Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22 to launch ₹5,100 crore development projects, including hydropower and a convention centre, and inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple under the PRASAD scheme to boost tourism and heritage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant visit to the Northeast on Monday, September 22, with a packed schedule covering both Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. The visit will mark the launch of major infrastructure projects and the inauguration of one of India’s most revered temples after redevelopment.
Development Push in Arunachal Pradesh
The Prime Minister will begin his tour in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, where he will lay the foundation stones of several development projects collectively worth more than ₹5,100 crore. According to an official press release, these projects span across sectors such as energy, tourism, infrastructure, health, and connectivity.
One of the most notable components of this visit is the launch of two major hydroelectric projects worth over ₹3,700 crore. These include the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), both of which will be developed in the Siyom sub-basin of the state. The projects are expected to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydroelectric potential, contribute to India’s clean energy ambitions, and enhance sustainable power generation in the region.
In addition, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Convention Centre in Tawang, located at an altitude of more than 9,820 feet. The centre is designed to host international and national conferences, cultural festivals, and exhibitions, strengthening the region’s role as a cultural and tourism hub. With seating for over 1,500 delegates, the Convention Centre will meet global standards, positioning Tawang as a premier venue for large-scale events.
Besides these flagship projects, the Prime Minister will announce multiple development works worth ₹1,290 crore across different sectors. These include initiatives related to connectivity upgrades, improved health facilities, enhanced fire safety infrastructure, and the construction of working women’s hostels. Together, these projects are expected to catalyse economic growth, improve the quality of life, and expand opportunities for local communities.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to interact with local taxpayers, industry representatives, and traders in Arunachal Pradesh. The discussions will focus on the recent GST rate rationalisation and its impact on business operations in the state. This initiative aligns with PM Modi’s broader vision of simplifying compliance, improving ease of doing business, and encouraging entrepreneurship across the country.
Inauguration of Redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple
Following his engagements in Arunachal Pradesh, PM Modi will travel to Tripura, where he will inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Complex at Matabari in the Gomati district. The temple is one of the ancient 51 Shakti Peethas, holding immense religious and cultural importance for Hindus across the world.
The redevelopment project has been executed under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme. The design of the temple complex, viewed from above, resembles a tortoise, a symbol of stability and longevity in Hindu tradition.
The revamped complex features a wide range of improvements, including upgraded pathways, newly constructed entrances, proper fencing, and an improved drainage system. A modern three-storied structure has also been added to the premises, housing meditation halls, guest accommodations, office spaces, and shops. These enhancements aim to provide better facilities to devotees while preserving the sanctity of the temple.
Officials stated that the redevelopment will not only preserve India’s spiritual heritage but also significantly boost tourism in Tripura. The project is expected to create new employment and business opportunities while contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
Strengthening the Northeast’s Role in India’s Growth
PM Modi’s dual visit underscores the government’s focus on the holistic development of the Northeast, combining infrastructure advancement with cultural preservation. While the Arunachal projects highlight the region’s role in India’s clean energy transition and tourism promotion, the redevelopment of the Mata Tripura Sundari temple reinforces the cultural and spiritual fabric that binds the country together.
