Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha has urged NFSU to launch a 2-year M.Sc course in Forensic Odontology at its Tripura campus, highlighting its role in justice delivery, while promoting Tripura as a hub for advanced forensic education in the North-East.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has emphasized the importance of advancing forensic odontology education in India, calling for the introduction of a two-year M.Sc course in the subject at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Tripura campus.
Dr. Saha made this appeal while addressing the 2nd International Conference on Odontology at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Speaking on the theme “Advancing Forensic Odontology: From Theory to Reality,” the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role forensic odontology plays in the criminal justice system, disaster victim identification, and the broader field of forensic science.
Forensic Odontology: Bridging Science and Justice
In his speech, Dr. Saha underlined that forensic odontology is not only scientifically fascinating but also indispensable in legal and social contexts. “We write, we speak, we discuss so many things, but it should be translated into reality. This is very important, and I think it justifies the theme of today’s conference. The topics are reflecting upon forensic odontology. It is not only significantly fascinating, but also socially as well as legally indispensable,” he said.
As a trained dentist and oral and maxillofacial surgeon himself, Dr. Saha noted the pressing need to transform theoretical discussions into real-world applications. He stated that advanced education and research in forensic odontology can significantly strengthen investigations and help the delivery of justice in society.
NFSU: The World’s First Dedicated Forensic Sciences University
During his address, Dr. Saha praised the achievements of NFSU, which has been declared an “institution of national importance” and is globally recognized as the first and only university dedicated exclusively to forensic behavioral science, cyber security, digital forensics, and allied disciplines.

He also recalled that the institution was earlier known as Gujarat Forensic Science University, established under the leadership of then Gujarat Chief Minister and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I was a bit confused whether it is the first one in the world or not, but then I was told that yes, it is the world’s first and only university dedicated to forensic behavioral science, cyber security, digital forensics, and allied sciences,” he said.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Saha added: “In our Tripura also, NFSU has started its curriculum. I am very thankful to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and also very much indebted to Home Minister Amit Shah, because of whose blessings NFSU has started in Tripura.”
Proposal for Forensic Odontology Course in Tripura
Dr. Saha urged the Vice-Chancellor of NFSU, Gandhinagar, to consider introducing a two-year M.Sc program in Forensic Odontology at the Tripura campus. He said the program would not only benefit Tripura but also open new avenues for forensic science education in the entire North-Eastern region.
“As I belong to Tripura and as Chief Minister, from a dentistry background—oral and maxillofacial surgeon to Chief Minister of Tripura—I should say something for Tripura. I will urge you all to visit Tripura, and you will be very happy after going there,” Dr. Saha stated.
Highlighting the state’s growing healthcare infrastructure, he mentioned that Tripura currently has three medical colleges with about 400 seats, and more capacity is expected soon. According to him, introducing specialized forensic science courses like forensic odontology will further strengthen academic and professional opportunities in the state.
Tripura: A Growing Hub in the North-East
Dr. Saha also took the opportunity to promote Tripura as a peaceful and progressive state. He acknowledged the central government’s efforts in integrating the North-East into the mainstream and ensuring equal opportunities for the region.
“Tripura is a peaceful state in the country, and it is because of our Prime Minister and Home Minister. So many efforts have been made for the people of the Northeastern region, who were earlier left out of the mainstream,” he said.
By advocating for advanced forensic education, Dr. Saha positioned Tripura as a potential hub for forensic sciences in the North-East. His call for an M.Sc course in Forensic Odontology reflects both his professional background and his vision for building a knowledge-based society in Tripura.
