Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has been named UNFPA’s brand ambassador to champion gender equality in India. During her two-year role, she will support campaigns, field visits, and global advocacy efforts. Kriti, who recently wrapped Aanand L Rai’s “Tere Ishk Mein,” says the cause is deeply close to her heart.

Bollywood star Kriti Sanon has added another milestone to her illustrious career, not in films but in global advocacy. The National Award-winning actress has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency.

Kriti, who has earned acclaim for her diverse roles in films like Mimi and Do Patti, expressed her excitement over the new responsibility in an interview with IANS. She described the appointment as both a “huge honor and an equally big responsibility”, emphasizing her commitment to using her influence for social good.

“I have always wished to use my voice and influence for a cause close to my heart. Gender equality is one such issue that is extremely important and broad. Whether it’s girl child education or fighting gender-based violence, a lot of work still needs to be done. I am glad I am able to assist UNFPA in this journey,” Kriti said.

A Two-Year Engagement with UNFPA

As part of her two-year association with UNFPA India, Kriti will actively participate in several initiatives designed to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. Her role will not be limited to symbolic endorsement; she will engage directly through:

  • Field visits to UNFPA programme sites across India.

  • Awareness campaigns and public opinion pieces amplifying critical issues.

  • Participation in UNFPA events and advocacy platforms both nationally and internationally.

The collaboration highlights UNFPA’s strategy of involving influential public figures to inspire conversations and bring attention to pressing issues. Kriti’s wide reach, especially among young audiences, is expected to help bridge the gap between policy-driven initiatives and ground-level awareness.

Gender Equality at the Core

UNFPA’s work in India focuses on promoting reproductive rights, adolescent health, gender equality, and ending harmful practices such as child marriage. By joining hands with the agency, Kriti has reiterated her belief that true progress cannot be achieved unless women and men enjoy equal rights and opportunities.

Her advocacy highlights the need to empower women through education and create a society free of gender-based violence and discrimination.

Kriti Sanon on the Silver Screen

While she takes on her global advocacy role, Kriti also continues to shine professionally. The actress recently wrapped up filming for Aanand L Rai’s much-awaited drama “Tere Ishk Mein”, where she stars opposite Dhanush. This is the first time the two will share screen space, making the project a highly anticipated release.

Sharing her experience on Instagram after completing the shoot in July, Kriti wrote:

“And it’s a wrap on #TereIshkMein!! Love wrapped in Anand Rai style drama and intensity!! After a roller coaster ride and a marathon of emotionally and physically draining schedules…Another beautiful journey comes to an end. But this one has given me memories and equations that will last forever!!”

She also praised her co-star Dhanush, calling him “one of the finest and most intelligent actors I have worked with.”

A Balance Between Cinema and Advocacy

Kriti’s association with UNFPA marks an important chapter in her journey beyond cinema. Known for portraying strong and layered characters, she now has the platform to influence real-world change. Her dual focus—cinema and advocacy—reflects the evolving role of celebrities who use their visibility to address critical social issues.
