In Bangladesh, academic activities at all engineering universities and colleges across the country came to a standstill today, as students under the banner of the Engineering Rights Movement enforced a complete shutdown. The move followed violent clashes in Dhaka yesterday, where police allegedly baton-charged demonstrators during a protest. Last night, student leaders announced the suspension of academic activities and ended road blockades to ease public suffering. Today, classrooms and exam halls at Rajshahi, Khulna, and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology remained empty, with similar scenes reported nationwide. Leaders of the movement declared that no classes or exams will take place until their demands are met. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali visited Shahbagh to express regret over the baton charge and promised an inquiry. The unrest began during the students’ Long March to Dhaka, which ended in several injuries.
