Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh expressed his satisfaction at the way women SHGs were playing key role for women empowerment in Tripura.
“It is heartening to see that the number of Self Help Groups(SHGs) in Tripura has increased 6 times in just 3.5 years. About 3 lakhs women are now associated with the new revolution of self-reliant India”, the Union Minister tweeted.
While addressing the women SHGs in Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on Sunday Singh also maintained that Tripura was emerging fast as the model state in the country.
In another tweet, he said, there are many many success stories in Tripura which need to be replicated on a large scale and many new things also need to be adopted.
Singh who is on a three day tour in the state was addressing Earlier he visited Charilam and interacted with the SHGs to understand their prospects and problems on ground.
“Women empowerment is precondition of overall development. And, the Self Help Groups are playing an important role for making the rural women Swanirbhar”, Singh said.
He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to develop the North Eastern state and the region would be the gateway of development in the future.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in his speech emphasized on involvement of more women in financial activities.
The state government is working to generate income to the women by forming SHGs in good number, Deb said.
The Union Minister distributed demo checks of worth Rs. 35 crore among the 1,014 self groups as loans sanctioned by the state government. He said the self help groups of the state have attained good skills.
Singh came to Tripura in a three-day trip on Saturday. Earlier on Sunday, he visited Matabari in Udaipur and also took part in another programme at Sepahijala district.
Two SHG members shared their success stories before the audience. Some stalls were opened by the SHG members with their products mostly handloom and bamboo items.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Paschim Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Antara Sarkar Deb, Rural Development secretary Saumya Gupta, CEO of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM)- C.K. Debnath and others were present in the programme.
Later in the evening, the Union Minister continue the meeting with Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and high officials and reviewed various on-going schemes.
The Union Minister also visited the Heart of Humanity outlet at Radhanagar run by the Purvaudaya and praised the unique citizen centric service model. Purvaudaya general secretary Niti Deb and other members were present in the programme.
