Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu paid a significant visit to the Super Specialty Block of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital on Monday to assess the quality of healthcare infrastructure and services provided to patients. The visit underscores the importance of strengthening healthcare delivery systems and ensuring high standards of patient care across public hospitals in the state.
Accompanied by senior hospital officials, the Governor toured various departments within the Super Specialty Block, including the Operation Theatre (OT) Complex, Neurology Ward, Plastic Surgery Ward, Urology Ward, and Gastroenterology Ward. The inspection was part of a broader initiative to understand the ground-level implementation of healthcare services and identify areas for potential improvement.
During his visit, Governor Reddy actively engaged with patients and enquired about their health, treatment progress, and the overall experience within the hospital. Patients expressed their satisfaction with the care received, and some also shared their experiences with the newly upgraded facilities.
Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital, provided a detailed briefing to the Governor on the functioning, infrastructure, and healthcare services available at the Super Specialty Block. He highlighted the hospital’s achievements in specialized care and the integration of advanced medical technologies aimed at improving patient outcomes.
The Governor was also joined by Prof. (Dr.) Arup Kumar Saha, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College, and senior doctors from different departments, who showcased the hospital’s capabilities and ongoing efforts to enhance specialty healthcare in Tripura. The team collectively addressed the Governor’s queries and elaborated on initiatives taken to reduce patient waiting times, improve diagnostics, and maintain hygiene protocols.
A statement issued by Raj Bhavan, Agartala, following the visit, stated that the Governor expressed satisfaction over the medical infrastructure, clinical efficiency, and staff dedication observed during his inspection. He commended the role of AGMC and GBP Hospital in providing tertiary-level healthcare not just to the people of Tripura, but also to patients coming from neighboring states and even from across the international border.
Governor Reddy also emphasized the significance of continuous upgradation of medical facilities and skill development of healthcare personnel to keep pace with growing healthcare demands. He lauded the collaborative efforts of doctors, nurses, and paramedics who work tirelessly to serve patients, often under challenging circumstances.
The visit marks a moment of encouragement for the state’s healthcare ecosystem, especially at a time when public health infrastructure is undergoing transformation with support from both state and central government schemes. The Governor’s engagement with the healthcare facility reflects a top-level commitment to ensuring that citizens have access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Meanwhile, officials at AGMC and GBP Hospital expressed gratitude for the Governor’s visit, terming it a morale booster for staff and a validation of their dedication to service. The hospital administration reaffirmed its commitment to advancing patient care through continual improvements, medical research, and public health initiatives.
