Tripura CM Manik Saha announces a new cricket stadium in Sabroom and proposes a state-level cricket academy. Land approval granted for the project under the Tripura Cricket Association. The move aims to boost cricket infrastructure and nurture young talent across the state.

In a push to boost sports infrastructure in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the development of a new cricket ground at Sabroom in South Tripura. Speaking at an event held in Agartala on Saturday, Dr. Saha revealed that the government has already approved the allocation of land for this ambitious project.

The Chief Minister confirmed that the land belonging to the Education Department would be handed over to the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) for the construction of the new stadium. “Tripura Cricket Association will develop a new cricket stadium at Sabroom and I have already given approval for giving the land of the Education Department,” Dr. Saha said, adding that the new ground will help promote cricket in southern Tripura and provide better opportunities to aspiring players in the region.

The announcement was made during the felicitation ceremony for newly inducted life members of the Tripura Cricket Association, as well as the annual reunion of all life members. The event was held in the capital city of Agartala and was attended by key dignitaries including Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy, Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission Justice Arindam Lodh, and TCA President Tapan Lodh.

Dr. Saha, who has been closely associated with the Tripura Cricket Association for several years, emphasized the importance of developing a strong sporting culture in the state. He reiterated that cricket continues to be one of the most celebrated and popular sports, not only in India but in Tripura as well.

“Cricket remains one of the most celebrated sports, with its popularity always at its peak,” said the Chief Minister. “The Tripura Cricket Association has been working relentlessly for years to promote the sport across the state — an organization with which I share a long-standing association.”

In addition to the stadium announcement, Dr. Saha also stressed the importance of establishing a state-level cricket academy to provide structured training for budding players. He assured full support from the state government in realizing this vision. “We need a state cricket academy for proper training of our players, and the government will extend every necessary support to make that happen,” he stated.

The proposed academy would serve as a centralized hub for nurturing young cricket talent in Tripura, offering coaching, mentoring, and fitness development under professional guidance. By combining improved infrastructure with institutional support, the state aims to produce more competitive cricketers who can represent Tripura at national and even international levels.

During the event, Dr. Saha extended his best wishes to all the new life members of the TCA and appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders working towards cricket development in the state. He encouraged everyone involved — from officials to coaches and local enthusiasts — to work proactively to promote the sport at all levels.

“Let’s continue to nurture talent and build a strong sporting culture in our state,” he concluded, urging a collaborative effort to make Tripura a recognized name in Indian cricket.
