NEP 2020 aims to educate every Indian child by age 18, says Minister Kishor Barman. Speaking at an Agartala workshop, he highlights skill-based learning, university growth, and inclusive policies as key reforms transforming India’s education landscape under the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.

In a bid to accelerate the vision of educational equity and excellence across India, a one-day workshop on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was held at the Matangini Pritilata Hall in Agartala. Organized under the aegis of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh, Tripura (Mahavidyala Shiksha), the event drew participation from academic leaders, professors, and educators across various colleges in the region.

The workshop was graced by the presence of Kishor Barman, Minister of Higher Education and Panchayat Department, who served as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering and speaking to the media, Barman reiterated the core mission of NEP 2020 — to ensure that every child in India receives an education by the age of 18, calling it a significant step toward fulfilling the goal of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 July 2020.

Transformative Vision for Indian Education

Minister Barman emphasized that the NEP 2020 is more than just a policy — it is a roadmap for comprehensive educational reform in India. “The policy aims to empower every child with knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a dynamic and globalized world,” he said.

At the secondary education level, the policy has steered a shift toward skill-based curricula, enabling students to be better equipped for practical and professional challenges. This approach, Barman noted, is vital in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application.

In the realm of higher education, NEP 2020 promotes the creation of knowledge-driven learning environments, fostering innovation, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary studies. Barman pointed out that these reforms are designed not only to enhance learning outcomes but also to make Indian institutions globally competitive.

Infrastructure Growth and Institutional Expansion

Highlighting the significant strides made in recent years, Barman shared that over 390 new universities have been constructed in the past decade, underlining the government’s focus on expanding the country’s educational infrastructure.

He further elaborated on the establishment of 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), along with multiple National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) across the nation.

“These efforts represent a focused strategy to promote both  the quantity and quality in Indian higher education,” he said.

To ensure regional inclusivity, the government has also established 22 universities in various states, with the goal of narrowing to the access gap between urban and rural areas. Barman asserted that this move underscores the administration’s commitment to inclusive academic growth and equitable opportunities.

A Unified Academic Front

The workshop brought together professors, lecturers, and educators who participated in discussions surrounding policy implementation, curriculum updates, and long-term planning. These academic stakeholders played a pivotal role in assessing the current impact of NEP 2020 and suggesting localized approaches for effective execution.

The collective dialogue reflected a shared optimism that NEP 2020 will act as a catalyst for educational transformation and lay the foundation for a more empowered and enlightened youth by the time they turn 18.

In conclusion, Minister Kishore Barman’s firm belief in NEP 2020 as a game-changer for Indian education was evident. By prioritizing inclusivity, skill development, and institutional expansion, the policy is not only shaping the future of India’s students but also reinforcing the nation’s journey toward becoming a knowledge-driven global leader.
