Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) partners with CSCs to launch digital services including life certificates for pensioners and online property tax payments. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility, transparency, and inclusion in governance across Tripura, with over 1,400 operational CSCs delivering essential public services to remote areas.

In a move aimed at improving access to essential public services, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has officially launched a suite of digital services through Common Service Centers (CSCs). The initiative was unveiled during a celebratory event held at Sukanta Academy, Agartala, commemorating the 16th anniversary of CSCs across India.

This strategic collaboration between AMC and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited is designed to bring government services closer to citizens, particularly those living in remote and underserved regions. The launch ceremony was graced by Mayor Dipak Majumder, along with Kiran Gitte, Secretary of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, and several other dignitaries.

Among the newly introduced services are the issuance of digital life certificates for pensioners and online payment of property taxes, both of which are expected to significantly reduce bureaucratic delays and improve convenience for the general public.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted the crucial role that CSCs play in democratizing access to governance and public services. “CSCs serve as digital bridges between the government and the people,” he remarked. “By integrating AMC services into the CSC framework, we are effectively decentralizing governance and making it more accessible.”

Expanding Digital Footprint in Tripura

The move is part of a broader strategy to deepen digital inclusion in Tripura. According to records from January 2022, the state boasts over 2,675 registered CSCs, with 1,478 actively operational centers. These centers serve as critical access points for a wide range of e-governance services, including:

  • Aadhaar enrollment and e-Aadhaar downloads

  • Passport application and renewal services

  • Insurance enrollment

  • Issuance of birth and death certificates

  • Ration card services

  • Pension-related services

  • PAN card processing

These services are managed by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), who act as the operational backbone of the CSC infrastructure. Their contributions were also recognized during the event, emphasizing their pivotal role in delivering last-mile digital connectivity.

Empowering Citizens Through Technology

Mayor Majumder reiterated the importance of digital inclusion in fostering responsive and transparent governance. “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s journey toward tech-driven governance,” he said. “We are moving towards a future where essential services are not only easily accessible but also efficient, transparent, and inclusive.”

He further urged citizens to make use of the facilities by visiting the official website of the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, where they can locate the nearest CSC by selecting their district.

A Model for Other Municipal Bodies

The AMC-CSC collaboration sets a precedent for other municipal corporations across the country aiming to modernize their citizen service delivery mechanisms. The integration of local governance services into the CSC framework not only ensures greater outreach but also reduces the need for citizens to visit multiple government offices for routine tasks.

This initiative aligns closely with the Digital India vision of the Government of India, which seeks to empower citizens through technology-enabled governance and service delivery.

Looking Ahead

With the successful integration of AMC services into the CSC ecosystem, the focus now shifts to expanding the range of available services and ensuring that citizens in every corner of Tripura can benefit. Training programs for VLEs and awareness campaigns for citizens are expected to be rolled out in the coming months to ensure maximum utilization of the services.
