Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, P Kumaran, has said that during the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, both leaders acknowledged the importance of the agriculture sector and its significant contribution to the economies of both sides. Briefing media in Brasilia, Mr Kumaran said, the Prime Minister proposed enhanced collaboration in sharing knowledge, best practices, and technology transfer in various areas. He said there was also discussion on collaboration in digitalisation and digital public infrastructure. Mr Kumaran said, enhancing people-to-people relations and connectivity was highlighted, including cooperation in sports, sports management, and capacity building, highlighting India’s strength in cricket and Brazil’s strength in football. He said the visit marked Mr Modi’s fourth visit to Brazil in the past four years and is only the second bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in the last 57 years. The Secretary said, three agreements were signed today and exchanged in front of the President of Brazil and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  Mr Kumaran said, these were the agreements on cooperation in combating international terrorism and transnational organised crime, an MoU on cooperation for the sharing of successful large-scale digital solutions for digital transformation and an MoU on cooperation in renewable energy.
