The TIPRA Motha got one more shot in the arms as one more incumbent IPFT MLA Dhananjay Tripura joined the party. On Friday Brindaban Tripura accompanied by TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman went to Tripura Legislative assembly Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty and submitted his resignation as the MLA from Raima Valley constituency.
Earlier Brishaketu Debbarma of Simna constituency had resigned but his papers were not accepted by the Speaker for technical reasons. Later Brishaketu Debbarma was disqualified from the assembly.
Another IPFT MLA and former Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia who is having serious differences of opinion with party’s chief N C Debbarma is also reportedly planning to join the TIPRA Motha. He has been keeping a low profile for the last few months after a scandal relating to his behavioural aberrations in regards to a girl in New Delhi Tripura Bhawan alerted Delhi police and subsequently hit headlines. However, Mevar Kumar Jamatia has been maintaining close relations with TIPRA Motha for long and some months ago his wife joined the TIPRA Motha. Sources indicate that soon Mevar Kumar Jamatia also will follow suit and join the party.
Dhananjay Tripura had been in close contact with TIPRA Motha for quite some time. He was also very friendly with some other IPFT and BJP leaders from indigenous communities who had either already joined TIPRA Motha or were reported to be inclined to join the party soon.
Dhananjay Tripura had in 2019 was also hit media headlines over a rape accusation. However, the matter was settled later following his marriage.
