Apart from setting up of a 25-bedded two half-way homes for both males and females in Narsingarh, Agartala for those who have recovered from mental sickness and are searching for a place to stay or those who do not have anywhere to stay, initiative has been taken to provide Unique ID card (UDID) to the Divyangjans in the state, so that they could properly avail the benefits of different kinds of central and state government schemes.
Additional Director of Social Welfare & Social Education department L. Ranchal in a press meet recently at the Directorate of Social Welfare & Social Education department said, this UDID has already been provided to 27,358 persons so far. Campaigns are being done regularly in different blocks on behalf of District Divyangjan Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) to identify Divyangjans and provide them with UDID. He also informed that campaigns are regularly being organized in different areas to provide different kinds of walking aids to the Divyangjans. Such campaigns have been organized in the present financial year and about 4000 walking aids have been distributed. He also said, proposal has been sent to the concerned Union Ministry to open four new DDRC in North Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala and South Tripura district.
The Additional Director further said, different kinds of social pensions are being provided at present to 3,89,439 beneficiaries under 31 state government schemes and three central schemes through SW&SE department. 1,58,197 beneficiaries are getting social pensions under the central government’s different schemes and 2,31,242 beneficiaries are getting social pensions under the state government. Among the beneficiaries, 15,371 beneficiaries are Divyangjans. He informed that 33,085 persons have been registered for social pension in the last two years. He informed that 3,606 beneficiaries have received benefits under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana in the present financial year. He informed that the 181 Women’s Helpline Number has been started in the state so that any woman facing any sort of abuse or unwanted incident may directly seek help. One could seek help as well as get information dialing the number. He informed that with the assistance of National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Alankit Assignment Limited has taken the initiative to start a helpline for the senior citizens of the state. This centre is being opened at Melarmath and its trial run has been successfully completed recently. It is being hoped that this helpline will start functioning within the present month itself.
The Additional Director also informed that 9,911 Anganwadi Centres in the state are presently running under 56 ICDS Project. In these Anganwadi Centres, 3,27,403 children of 6 months to 6 years of age and 56,218 pregnant and lactating mothers have been registered and are being provided with various kinds of assistances. Recently, 260 new Anganwadi Centres have been approved for eight districts of the state. Among these, 45 Anganwadi Centres will be identified in North Tripura, Dhalai and Gomati districts only for the purpose of Bru rehabilitation. He said that those children suffering from malnutrition are being provided with assistance through POSHAN Abhiyan. So far, 9,188 such children are being provided with nutritional food under this scheme. He informed that Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphar Prakalp has been started in the month of August, 2021 to provide assistance to pregnant mothers. These pregnant ladies are being provided with financial assistance of 2 thousand rupees, i.e. 500 rupees in each of four installments. So far, 4,775 ladies have been assisted under the scheme. Others present in the press meet were Deputy Directors of SW&SE department Amrita Majumdar, Sumita Sen and Deputy Commissioner for Disability Achinta Kilikdar.
