Opposition Congress supporters called a 24-hours Bandh in the North, Unakoti and Dhalai districts on Monday on 16 point charter of demands which include employment for the unemployed, rolling back of Agnipath Scheme and arranging jobs for the unemployed youths.

Interestingly the bandh was called only in three districts where PCC president Birajit Sinha holds sway as far as Congress is concerned. Sinha notwithstanding his position as the PCC president is of late being overshadowed by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman who conspicuously leads all the agitation programmes. As it happens Roy Barman also ostensibly for his aggressive political behaviours gets the media coverage more than the PCC president.

It was at this backdrop Sinha seemed to have taken the easy way out. At his instance the Congress units of the northern part of the state called the district bandh though the issues actually pertained to entire state.

However, in the meantime the Congress also got some booster when as many 2,517 voters belonging to 837 families from Barjala, Banamalipur, Pratapgarh, Bamutia and Khayerpur areas joined the party on Sunday.

One of the significant joining was of Baptu Chakraborty TMC general secretary with many of the TMC supporters and voters.

Sudip Roy Barman, Asish Saha and Gopal Roy addressed the gathering of party workers and new entrants in front of the Congress Bhawan at Post Office Chowmuhani.

“Today is an important day for Congress, the original political party that freed the country from British rule. Those who had left the party out of frustration and confusion have now returned to their original track; the Congress has regained its power and is growing stronger in the coming days and the anti-people BJP that has destroyed Tripura will be ousted from power with full force” said Roy Barman.
