Royal Challengers Bengaluru have clinched the Indian Premier League trophy for the first time. They defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last night. On winning the maiden IPL title, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar said that Virat Kohli and all the fans deserve this win more than anyone else. He also thanked the team management and coaching staff for supporting every player.
After being invited to bat first, RCB scored 190 for 9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored the highest 43 runs, while skipper Patidar contributed 26 runs. Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson bagged 3 wickets for the Punjab Kings. In response, Punjab Kings could manage to score 184 in the stipulated 20 overs, with Shashank Singh scoring an unbeaten 61. For RCB, Krunal Pandya’s spell was the game changer, as he gave only 17 runs in his 4 overs and also picked up 2 crucial wickets. For his extraordinary bowling, Pandya got the Player of the Match Award.
In the post-match presentation, Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudarshan won the Orange Cap Award for scoring the highest runs, while his teammate Prasidh Krishna won the Purple Cap Award for picking the highest number of wickets in this season. Mumbai Indians’ Surya Kumar Yadav won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for his exceptional batting throughout the tournament.
