In a tragic accident three workers, including a minor, were electrocuted in Sabroom on Saturday sending a shock wave across the subdivision.
Sources said, the three workers – Sanjib Tripura, Hridoy Tripura and Upendra Tripura were engaged by one power department contractor Bikash Malla at Laltilla area. Among them Hridoy Tripura was a minor – 16 years old. All of them were resident of Chalitacherra area of Sabroom subdivision.
Sources said, the workers were erecting an iron pillar for powerline extension at Laltilla area. But all off a sudden the iron structure came in contact with high voltage live power line that was passing overhead. At once the three labourers who were holding the iron pillar were severely electrocuted. They suffered almost 90 percent burn injuries and thrown away by a massive jolt. They died on spot.
The police had rushed to thee place of occurrence at once and brought the three labourers -already lifeless then- to the hospital.
The incident sparked off huge sensation in Sabroom which only recently witnessed a similar tragedy when three daily wage earners died of asphyxia while cleaning a septic tank.
Allegations were also being raised against the power department contractor Bikash Malla for engaging workers in a highly hazardous work without precaution. Normally the high voltage power line should have been kept off-power while workers were working nearby, more so while erecting an iron structure which is a strong conductor.
What was more, the engagement of a minor -Hridoy Tripura (16) as a labourer -that too in such a risky job raised a serious question.
