The second virtual meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Investment Promotion in the North Eastern Region, chaired by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and convened by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, took place today with the aim of strengthening the region’s investment roadmap. The meeting was held under the aegis of the North Eastern Council (NEC) and brought together senior officials and ministers from various northeastern states.

Key decisions from the meeting included conducting stakeholder consultations with industry associations, potential investors, and state officials to prepare a strategic investment roadmap. It was agreed that reputed academic institutions and expert agencies would be engaged to draft a comprehensive Investment Promotion Policy for the North Eastern Region. Emphasis was placed on the identification of priority sectors, marketing strategies, logistics, and connectivity to attract investment.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who represented the state virtually along with Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and other senior officials, took the opportunity to highlight several demands and developmental proposals. He sought Union Minister Scindia’s support for establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tripura. Additionally, he proposed launching international flight services from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, granting national recognition to the state’s gymnasium academy, upgrading National Highway No. 6, and providing subsidies on gas prices.

Dr. Saha underlined Tripura’s progress in boosting industrial development, infrastructure, and skill training. He stated that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income have witnessed notable improvement, making Tripura one of the leading states in terms of economic growth in the Northeast.

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia lauded Tripura’s developmental strides and encouraged other northeastern states to emulate its efforts for regional advancement. He assured central support for proposals including palm cultivation, heritage tourism promotion (such as the inclusion of Unakoti in the North-East Tourism Circuit), and the upcoming launch of a 19-seater passenger flight from Kailashahar.

Secretary of the Good Governance Department, Kiran Gitte, made a detailed presentation on the state’s progress since the last meeting. Key developments included the modernization of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), establishment of an Integrated Logistics Hub, promotion of Queen Pineapple as a global brand, reactivation of Kailashahar Airport, healthcare improvements, palm cultivation promotion, agarwood marketing, and infrastructure development in border areas.

The virtual meeting also emphasized the importance of launching a full-fledged Investment Promotion Policy and uploading each state’s land bank data to a dedicated portal for transparency and investor access.

Prominent attendees included Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland T.R. Zeliang, Sikkim’s Industries and Commerce Minister T. Bhutia, and Meghalaya Chief Secretary B.K. Bakshi. From Tripura, apart from the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, key officials such as Secretary of the Good Governance Department Kiran Gitte and Planning Department Secretary L.T. Darlong also participated.

The meeting reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting the development and investment aspirations of the North Eastern Region, setting the stage for sustained growth and economic transformation across the eight states.
