India Targets Pakistan’s Air Defence Systems
In a significant escalation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, the Indian government announced on Thursday morning that its armed forces had successfully targeted and neutralized Air Defence Radars and systems at multiple locations within Pakistan. Among the most crucial targets was the Air Defence system located in Lahore Defence, which has reportedly been neutralized, according to an official government statement.

The strike comes as a response to a series of aggressive moves by Pakistan on the night of May 7-8. During this period, Pakistan attempted to engage numerous military targets in Northern and Western India. The attacks involved drones and missiles aimed at strategically important locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. The Indian Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully neutralized these threats, with debris recovery underway as evidence of Pakistan’s offensive.
Targeting Lahore Defence
The Indian government clarified that its response matched the scale and intensity of the initial attack from Pakistan. Among the targeted locations, the Air Defence system at Lahore Defence was identified as a strategic point and was successfully neutralized. The official statement confirmed that the response was within the same domain as Pakistan’s offensive, highlighting India’s commitment to maintaining proportionality while defending its territory.

Pakistan’s Cross-Border Escalation
Tensions have been escalating along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has intensified its unprovoked firing across the LoC, deploying mortars and heavy-calibre artillery. These attacks have targeted areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors. Tragically, these incidents have resulted in the loss of 16 lives, including three women and five children. The Indian Armed Forces have reiterated their intent to avoid escalation while emphasizing their right to defend against aggressive acts.
India’s Stance: Measured and Focused Response
During a press briefing on Operation Sindoor held on May 7, Indian authorities reiterated that their military response was focused, measured, and non-escalatory. While targeting critical air defence installations, India refrained from attacking broader military establishments in Pakistan. The government reiterated that it remains committed to non-escalation, provided Pakistan ceases its aggressive military actions.
Strategic Significance of Lahore Defence
Lahore Defence serves as a key military and strategic hub within Pakistan, housing significant defence infrastructure. Neutralizing the air defence system at this location represents a calculated move to diminish Pakistan’s aerial defence capabilities without extending hostilities to civilian areas. By focusing on military installations, India signals its intent to maintain a balanced approach while ensuring its territorial integrity.
Conclusion
The situation remains tense as both countries remain on high alert. The Indian Armed Forces have expressed their willingness to maintain peace if Pakistan refrains from further provocations. However, the government has made it clear that any threat to Indian military targets will be met with an appropriate and proportional response. As recovery operations continue, the international community watches closely, urging both nations to de-escalate and pursue diplomatic solutions.
