Corbin Bosch made a sensational IPL debut for Mumbai Indians on his brother’s birthday, scoring quick runs and taking a wicket after joining MI amid PSL controversy. His strong start boosts his hopes of a bigger international career.
Corbin Bosch had a debut to remember for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025, delivering a standout performance on a deeply personal day — his brother Ethan’s birthday. The right-arm fast bowler and middle-order batter received the good news from MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene early Sunday morning: he would make his Indian Premier League debut against Lucknow Super Giants.
Bosch, who recently made headlines after being banned for one year by the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for withdrawing from Peshawar Zalmi to join MI, turned the controversy into motivation. In a thrilling display, he smashed a quickfire 20 off just 10 balls, helping MI post a formidable 215/7 alongside Naman Dhir’s unbeaten 25. Corbin later claimed his maiden IPL wicket, clean bowling Ravi Bishnoi with a deadly yorker.
“It’s a super special feeling for me. It is my brother’s birthday, and what a day to make my MI debut,” said a delighted Corbin after the match.
The 30-year-old South African, part of the victorious U-19 World Cup team in 2014 where he was Player of the Match in the final, has a rich domestic and international resume. He made his senior debut for the Proteas in late 2024 and has featured in one Test and two ODIs so far. Known for his all-round abilities, Corbin was also a key player for MI Cape Town in SA20 2025, picking up 11 wickets during their title-winning run.
Despite his successful start, Corbin admitted to battling nerves during his innings. “It was just about contacting the bat with the ball. My nerves were through the roof,” he confessed.
Speaking about his role, Bosch expressed gratitude towards the MI support system. “I have put in quite a lot of work on my bowling. Here at MI as well, they are helping me a lot. I am happy to bat wherever the team needs me,” he added.
Corbin’s decision to leave the PSL mid-contract sparked controversy, but he remains focused on the bigger picture — boosting his international career through the IPL’s immense global exposure. His promising debut already seems to be validating that gamble.
In what was both a personal and professional milestone, Bosch turned potential pressure into a memorable performance, setting the stage for a bright IPL future.
