Delhi CM Gupta orders probe into Mustafabad building collapse, promises strict action. Eleven dead, multiple injured in tragic 4-storey collapse. NDRF, police, and fire services continue rescue efforts amid congested lanes and night-time disaster.

A tragic incident struck the Mustafabad area in northeast Delhi early Saturday morning when a four-storey residential building collapsed around 3 am, leaving 11 people dead and 11 others injured. The disaster occurred while most occupants were asleep, as confirmed by CCTV footage showing the collapse at approximately 2:39 am.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls. Taking to social media, she announced a high-level investigation into the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the collapse.

“The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service (DFS), and other agencies are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations,” Gupta stated. “Arrangements for proper medical treatment of the injured have been made,” she added.

DIG NDRF Mohsen Shahedi said the rescue efforts are challenging due to the congested lanes of Mustafabad, limiting access for heavy machinery. He confirmed that NDRF and other teams have been on-site since the early hours.

According to Additional DCP (North East District) Sandeep Lamba, 14 individuals were initially rescued from the debris, but sadly, four succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Rescue operations, which lasted over 12 hours, involved the coordinated efforts of police, fire services, and volunteers. Nearly 10 fire tenders were deployed to the scene.

Delhi Fire Service Divisional Officer Rajender Atwal said the alert was received at 2:50 am, and immediate response followed. The building, located in the Dayalpur area, housed several families who were living as tenants.

The tragic event unfolded just as Delhi experienced a shift in weather. Rainfall and gusty winds swept through the city on Friday night, bringing respite from the heat, though no direct link has yet been established between the weather and the collapse.

Meanwhile, CM Rekha Gupta also attended a World Liver Day event at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), where she emphasized Delhi’s responsibility to provide healthcare to patients nationwide. She highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and praised schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

However, the Mustafabad building collapse now stands as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address safety standards in urban housing. As the city mourns its loss, all eyes remain on the results of the investigation and the steps the administration will take to prevent such tragedies in the future.
