More Jobs for Homeopathy Doctors as Tripura Plans Medical College

More Jobs for Homeopathy Doctors as Tripura Plans Medical College, says Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at World Homeopathy Day event.

In a significant development for the healthcare sector of Tripura, Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday announced that the state government has held discussions with external investors to establish a Homeopathy Medical College in the state. The move is expected to boost both homeopathy treatment and employment opportunities for homeopathy doctors in Tripura.

Dr. Saha made the announcement while addressing a state-level event at Prajna Bhavan to mark World Homeopathy Day 2025. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.

“Homeopathy treatment has been facing challenges for a long time, but we must overcome them,” Dr. Saha said. “I visited the State Hospital for Homeopathy and held discussions with investors who came from outside the state. We have urged them to consider setting up a Homeopathy Medical College in Tripura.”

The proposed medical college is expected to play a transformative role in shaping the future of homeopathy in the state, not just in terms of patient care but also by creating more employment opportunities for homeopathy doctors, especially for young medical graduates.

Dr. Saha emphasized that homeopathy needs greater public awareness and outreach. “Homeopathy doesn’t provide instant relief like some allopathic treatments, but it is highly effective for long-term and chronic conditions. Many patients have benefited immensely, avoiding surgery thanks to homeopathy. Unfortunately, not many know these success stories,” he said.

He added that there are numerous talented and experienced homeopathy practitioners in Tripura, but their contributions are often underappreciated due to the lack of visibility and awareness among the general public. “We need to bring these stories to the forefront to build public trust in homeopathy,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that the sector received a renewed push after 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Homeopathy was earlier neglected for years, but after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, homeopathy was promoted under the AYUSH Ministry, alongside Ayurveda and Unani systems. This integration gave it national recognition,” he said.

Importantly, Dr. Saha underlined that homeopathic medicines are known for having no side effects, which makes them a safer option for many patients, particularly those suffering from chronic conditions and those who are sensitive to conventional medications.

Currently, Tripura has 173 Homeopathy Medical Officers serving in government institutions. “We are planning to recruit more homeopathy doctors in the near future. This would not only strengthen the healthcare delivery system but also create jobs for qualified homeopathy graduates,” he informed.

To expand the infrastructure for traditional medicine, the government is also planning to set up another integrated AYUSH Hospital in Sabroom subdivision, which will offer services in homeopathy, Ayurveda, and Unani.

“The Health Department has made remarkable progress in the past few years. We are now focused on holistic development, including expanding the reach of homeopathy to underserved areas,” Dr. Saha said.

The event saw the presence of several senior health officials and dignitaries, including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Additional Secretary Rajiv Dutta, Director of Health Dr. Tapan Majumder, Director of Medical Education Prof. Dr. H.P. Sharma, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Dr. Anjan Das, and Joint Director of the National Health Mission Arup Deb.

The announcement has been welcomed by homeopathy practitioners and students in the state, who see the proposed college as a long-awaited step toward recognition and career development. If the plan materializes, Tripura could become a hub for homeopathy education in the Northeast, reducing the dependence on neighboring states like West Bengal for homeopathy education and treatment.

With a stronger focus on infrastructure, job creation, and public awareness, Tripura is poised to position itself as a forward-looking state in the field of alternative medicine.
