The International Radiobiology Conference on ‘Biological Effects of Space Radiation, Heavy Ions and Human Space Missions-Mechanisms, and Biomedical Countermeasures’ began in New Delhi today. Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Dr Samir V Kamat inaugurated the conference.

Highlighting the significance of the Conference, Professor Sood said that missions to explore space continue to increase and as a result, there are many radiance effects which will also increase in future. He said that this conference will help understand those challenges and their solutions. Prof. Sood also added that international cooperation is needed to reduce radiation’s biological effects.

In his address, DRDO Chairman, Dr. Samir V Kamat said that this Conference will not only help understand Space exploration but also a wide range of health care to material science.
