In a tragic incident at Rani Pukur village in Gandacherra, a five-year-old girl died, and her seven-year-old sister is in critical condition after consuming puffed rice (Muri) accidentally mixed with rat poison. The sisters, Mainnarung Reang and Milisha Reang, unknowingly ate the contaminated puffed rice while playing at home, unaware of its fatal contents.

At the time of the incident, no adults were present in the house. The children’s parents returned from work in the evening to find both girls vomiting profusely. Acting quickly, the family rushed them to Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital. Given the severity of their condition, the doctors referred them to Dhalai District Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, Mainnarung passed away on Saturday morning while under medical care. Her elder sister, Milisha, is still battling for her life.

It was later revealed that the children’s mother had mixed rat poison with muri and stored it to eliminate rodents. The children, unaware of this, consumed it, leading to the devastating incident.

The heartbreaking event has left the entire village in grief, mourning the loss of a young life and hoping for the recovery of the surviving child.
