Justice Arindam Lodh, Judge of the High Court of Tripura, has been appointed as the president of the Tripura State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

 This is for the first time that any sitting judge of the High Court of Tripura has been appointed in this position. The post was lying vacant for a long time. 

A notification has been issued regarding the appointment on Wednesday with the recommendation of the High Court of Tripura and with the concurrence of the Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice (Department of Justice). 

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 42 (3) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Central Act No. 35 of 2019) and pursuant to the provision under Rule 3 (1) of the Consumer Protection (Qualification for appointment, method of recruitment, procedure of appointment, term of office, resignation & removal of the President and members of the State Commission and District Commission) Rules, 2020, the Governor is pleased to appoint Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arindam Lodh, Judge, Hon’ble High Court of Tripura to function as the President of the Tripura State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on part-time basis for such period as prescribed in the aforesaid Rules,” the notification reads.
