Hundreds of TET-qualified job aspirants staged a protest in front of Tripura Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday, demanding an immediate recruitment drive to fill 361 vacant teaching positions. The candidates, who cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in December 2022, expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in appointments by the state education department.

The protestors voiced their concerns about uncertainty regarding their future. One demonstrator said, “We passed the TET in 2022, but no recruitment has been conducted since then. The government frequently mentions teacher shortages and vacant positions, yet we remain unemployed despite being qualified.”

The job seekers revealed that their previous discussions with education department officials, including the Director, had shown promise. “The Education Director assured us of his willingness to recruit but said he requires directions from the Chief Minister,” one aspirant shared.

Highlighting the shortage of teachers in state-run schools, the protestors demanded urgent action from the Chief Minister, who also oversees the education portfolio. They argued that filling the vacant posts would not only provide them with employment but also improve the quality of education in government schools.

The demonstration prompted the deployment of a large police and TSR force to disperse the crowd, but the aspirants remained steadfast in their demands for transparency and immediate action.

The protest underscores the growing demand for accountability in addressing the employment and educational challenges in Tripura.
