TIPRA Motha, the junior alliance partner of the ruling BJP in Tripura, will stage a rally on September 26 at Sabroom, South Tripura, protesting the recent attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. The country is currently under the administration of an interim government.
Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the founder of TIPRA Motha, announced the rally at a press conference held at Ujjayanta Palace. He highlighted that the event aims to show solidarity with the minority communities in Bangladesh, including Hindu Bengalis, Chakmas, Kukis, Mogs, Christians, and Buddhists, who have been facing continuous atrocities.
Debbarman described the attacks as “planned” and emphasized the need for international awareness, calling on the Indian government to bring the issue to the attention of the United Nations. “This is not the first time minorities have been targeted. It’s time for India to act and expose Bangladesh on this matter,” he stated.
The TIPRA Motha leader also addressed the recent Delhi meeting on the Tipra Accord, where the party requested compensation for victims of past militant violence in Tripura. The Union government had previously announced a ₹250 crore package, and the party seeks to ensure that those affected by militancy receive due compensation. Additionally, TIPRA Motha has pushed for reservation for the Manipuri-speaking community in the state.
