The public representatives of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system must work with sincerity and transparency in the public interest, as the panchayat is the main foundation for development. Various development schemes of the central and state governments are implemented through panchayats. The benefits of these schemes reach the masses through the panchayat, stated Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the Agartala Town Hall today during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members, Sabhadhipati, and Saha-Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad.

Today, Balai Goswami was sworn in as the Sabhadhipati and Biswajit Shil as the Saha-Sabhadhipati. The oath was administered by the Secretary of the Rural Development Department, Dr. Sandeep Rathod. Prior to this, the other members took their oaths, which were administered by the Director of the Panchayat Department, Prasun De.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated that by electing these individuals as members of the three-tier Panchayat system, the people have given them the opportunity to work for public welfare. The government is working with transparency in every sector, and the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency at the panchayat level as well. He said that, in line with the “vocal for local” concept promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, local resources should be utilized for the development of villages. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also mentioned that the provision of honorarium for the Sabhadhipati, Saha-Sabhadhipati, and members of the Standing Committee is in place to ensure transparency. They also receive allowances for attending meetings, with similar provisions for Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat members.

At the program, the Chief Minister mentioned the ‘Aamar Sarkar’ portal, launched with the objective of strengthening the Panchayati Raj system. He also referred to the various awards and honors achieved by the state in the Panchayati Raj sector at the national level between 2018 and 2023, stating that these awards reflect the government’s success.

The oath-taking program was also attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, MLA Kishore Barman, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, and DM-West Dr. Vishal Kumar. A vote of thanks was delivered by the newly elected Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Balai Goswami.
