Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that this is the era of silicon diplomacy and India will take every step to become the semiconductor powerhouse. He said, the government is focussing on increasing the number of chip productions in the country to equip every device with Indian-made chips. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 in Greater Noida.

During his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the various initiatives taken to boost the electronics and semiconductor industry in the country. He said the government has set a target to make the country’s electronics sector a 500 billion dollars’ worth industry by the end of this decade.  He said, this will create 60 lakh jobs.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the success of the Digital India initiative, saying the country is witnessing its multiplier effect. He said, earlier the country used to import mobile phones, but now it has become the second largest producer and exporter of mobile phones.

Speaking on this occasion, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, the government has brought technology into the hands of citizens through the Digital India and Telecom Mission. He said, growth of semiconductor industry in the country will further deepen this vision.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that SEMICON India will witness the participation of top leadership of global semiconductor giants. It will bring together global leaders, companies, and experts of the semiconductor industry. The conference will witness the participation of more than 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers.

India is committed to building the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and is leading the technology revolution with focus on electronics. Semiconductors have applications in nearly all sectors, including communication, defence, automobiles and computing devices. India has a big role to play in the growth of the global semiconductor sector, and Semicon India will offer a platform to deliberate on various aspects shaping the semiconductor ecosystem in India.
