TIPRA Motha has requested intervention of the Governor for early Village Committee elections across the TTAADC areas.
The VC elections were scheduled to be held last year.
On Thursday a delegation of the TIPRA Motha led by TTAADC chairman Jagadish Debbarma called on Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
Debbarma later told the media that deputations demanding immediate conduct of the Village Council polls were given to the District Magistrates (DM) or the Sub-divisional Magistrates addressing the Governor of all the eight districts. Before submitting the deputation the regional party held a procession in the city.
He said, “If there is no elected representative in the VCs, the fund 15th Commission fund disbursement may get affected. And in this scenario developmental projects in the ADC areas would be stalled.”
Debbarma took a dig at the State Government on this issue and said TIPRA Motha would organize a movement across the state to press for the elections.
“The ruling BJP knows it very well that it would be defeated if the elections are held now. For this reason, the BJP is not interested to hold the election”, Debbarma claimed and said the date for holding the elections had expired on March 7, 2021.
“We are giving one month’s time to the state government, or we would organize movement throughout the state”, he told the media.
Even as the elections for the total 587 village committees were scheduled to last year, they could not be held owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
TIPRA Motha supporters submitted deputation addressing the Governor to the DM of the Gomati District today demanding immediate conduct of polls in the Village Councils. Local leaders of the party were present in the programme.
Our Belonia correspondent adds: In support of the same demand, TIPRA Motha supporters met the DM of the South District over a deputation and submitted a memorandum addressing the Governor. Supporters led by the local leaders held a rally prior to deputation submission.
