President Droupadi Murmu on Friday appointed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party leader Narendra Modi as Prime Minister-designate. The official appointment was made during a meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Murmu handed over the letter of appointment to Modi. The new government is set to take the oath of office on Sunday evening.

The day witnessed rapid political movements as leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA coalition met with President Murmu to present letters of support for Modi. Earlier in the day, Modi was unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party during a meeting held in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Rajnath Singh proposed Modi’s name, which was endorsed by all NDA allies.

Addressing the media in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Modi confirmed his appointment as Prime Minister-designate. “The President has asked me to work as the PM-designate,” he stated. Modi emphasized that the NDA will form a “strong, stable, and growth-oriented government” and assured the nation that his administration would strive to meet the hopes and aspirations of the people.

Modi expressed confidence in the stability of the new government, highlighting its potential benefits for India’s economy and youth. He promised a relentless effort to develop the nation at a fast pace, emphasizing that the NDA is an alliance dedicated to the principle of “nation first,” rather than a coalition driven by power.

The oath-taking ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening, where President Murmu will administer the oath to Modi and his new cabinet. Detailed arrangements and the list of the Council of Ministers are being finalized and will be presented to the President.

Prominent NDA leaders expressed their support for Modi’s leadership. TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu praised the significant initiatives undertaken during Modi’s previous terms, noting the remarkable progress and transformation India has experienced. “India is having the right leader at the right time — that is Narendra Modi,” Naidu remarked.

Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) President Nitish Kumar also extended his support, pledging to collaborate with Modi in his new term. Kumar commended Modi’s service to the country and expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill remaining goals.

Other key supporters included Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (Shinde group) leader Eknath Shinde, LJP (R) Chief Chirag Paswan, NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Jan Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan, Apna Dal (S) leader Anupriya Patel, and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy.

The BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, ensuring a clear majority in the 543-member House. This decisive victory has paved the way for Modi’s third term as Prime Minister, promising continuity and further progress in the nation’s governance.

As the country looks forward to the new government taking office, the NDA’s unity and commitment under Modi’s leadership are expected to drive India towards sustained growth and development.
