On Sunday, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Tribal Students’ Union (TSU) jointly staged a protest rally in Agartala, voicing concerns over the poor performance of Vidyajyoti schools in recent Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations.

Leading the protest, SFI state president Sandipan Deb demanded that the government clarify the reasons behind the disappointing results. Deb criticized the administration, holding former Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath responsible for the schools’ shortcomings. “The introduction of the Vidyajyoti scheme, without adequate infrastructure, has landed our students in trouble,” he asserted.

Deb attributed the poor results to an unplanned switch from Bengali to English medium and a shortage of qualified teachers. “We are here to seek clarification from the government on why Vidyajyoti schools underperformed in the CBSE-run Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations,” he said. The SFI also demanded that Bengali be allowed as the medium of instruction in Vidyajyoti schools and that students be permitted to write their examinations in Bengali.
