Covid shows ominous trend ; AMC records 12 per cent positive case

There is an alarming surge in Covid positive cases in the state , especially in Agartala Municipal Council areas –about 12 per cent – which forced to state government to embark upon some stricter restrictions. Al ready the state government has made testing of 100 per cent incoming passengers compulsory in all entry points. All incoming passengers have to undergo Covid 19 tests in all entry points even if they produce a negative test report or final certificate of Covid vaccination. Apart from that  a new Covid guideline is expected to be issued by the government on Sunday. According to sources, the government is likely to reduce the strength in all government offices at 50 per cent while training of all departments except Fire Service and Health would be cancelled.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday said the Covid positivity rate in the AMC reached around 12 percent while the figure in the entire state is 4 percent.

He said, the Health department has already put all preparations in place with sufficient stock of medical essentials and adequate quarantine centres.

“There is no Omicron case in the state so far but Covid cases are there. The positivity rate in AMC is around 12 percent which is a matter of concern,” the Chief Minister told the media.

He made an appeal to the people for maintaining the Covid guidelines, wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness.

According to a tweet from the Chief Secretary, a plan is in the pipeline to increase the number of beds in Covid Care Centres, hospitals and pediatric ICUs. Besides, more medical officers and staff would be engaged for handling the anticipated load. The district control rooms along with the call centres would be made functional.

In a separate tweet, the Chief Secretary mentioned that more medicines would be procured though there was adequate stock of medicine to meet any emergency.

As the Covid situation appeared to be alarming, the administration is likely to impose some restrictions including Corona Night Curfew to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

An official report said, tests of 4160 samples were conducted from Friday to Saturday evening. Among them 154 positive cases were detected including 93 cases in West Tripura district alone.
