Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in presence of Union DoNER Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh flagged off Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Shatabdi Express on Saturday through video conferencing. It is the first rail line connection between Tripura and Manipur.
The Railway Minister while addressing the event said that the train connection will boost trade, tourism and transportation sectors of the entire northeast region.
The Railway minister also assured that he would soon review the development of much ambitious Akhaura-Agartala railway project which is a strategic point of connection between India and Bangladesh.
Besides, Deb and Singh Tripura transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy several other leaders attended the event through video links from their respective states.
Deb said, the train service will further strengthen the relationship between the two states.
Railway officials said the train service will connect from Manipur to Tripura via Arunachal station at Silchar in Assam.
The train will run thrice a week.
The train will run tri-weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The train will have 10 coaches—two AC chair car, two second class chair car cum brake van and six second class chair car.
As per the schedule, the Agartala- Jiribum (12097) Jana Shatabdi express will depart from Agartala railway station at 6 am and reach Jiribum at 12 pm and in return journey. The train will have stoppages at Ambassa, Dharmanagar, New Karimganj, Badarpur and Arunachal.
