Rajya Sabha member and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb raised a demand in the Rajya Sabha for the speedy implementation of the latest Instrument Landing System or updated ILS system so that the aircraft can land easily even in adverse weather conditions at the Agartala MBB Airport.

Drawing the attention of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, he said, MBB Airport is an IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) airport, where aircraft take- off and landing are done through Instrument Landing System or ILS procedure.

The old ILS system at MBB Airport Agartala has already been replaced with the new upgraded system. It has already been done. Ground calibration and air calibration were also completed by Airport Authority of India aircraft on  November 27 last. This system will be introduced only after the approval of DGCA.

Summarizing the statistics obtained, Deb said that 4 flights from Agartala and 14 flights to Agartala were cancelled in December 2023 and 15 flights from Agartala Airport and 14 flights to Agartala were canceled between January 1 and 14 this year. Such cancellations not only cause problems for the passengers but also financial losses. He demanded DGCA’s approval for speedy implementation of ILS system at the airport considering the matter on priority basis.
