The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala has excelled at the national level and emerged as one of the ‘Band-Performer’ related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties.

The ranking was done by the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) initiative of the Ministry of Education.

Union Minister of State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar virurally released the ARIIA ranking in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Emergence of NIT, Agartala as ‘Best-Performer’ has put the premier Institutions of the State on the same line with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indian Institute Of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi Indian Institute Of Technology Bhubaneswar,  Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati etc.

Taking the Indian innovation and start-up ecosystem in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) into account, various parameters comprise of input, process, output, and outcome parameters were considered in ARIIA for ranking.

The major parameters included : Activities to promote and support innovation & start-up in the campus, Pre-incubation and incubation infrastructures & facilities available in campus, Academic courses offered by the institute on innovation, IPR and start-up, Successful innovation and start-ups emerged from campus,  Investment, collaboration and partnerships with ecosystem enablers , Research outputs; publications and intellectual properties generated, Technology transfer and commercialization efforts.

The very first edition of ARIIA started in 2019 and total 496 institutes competed to get a position in the ranking. For the 2nd edition of ARIIA (2020), total of 674 institutes were participated.

Signalling a major success in the Higher Education sector, the current edition of ARIIA 2021 saw unprecedented participation as compared to earlier two editions. Out of a total of 3551 HEIs registered, 1438 institutions (including all IITs, NITs, IISc, etc.) participated which is more than double as compared to 2nd edition and approximately 4 times as compared to the first edition.

This 3rd edition of ARIIA has introduced a special framework for non-technical institutions that further strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Indian higher education institutions.
