Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the Indian Criminal Justice System will be the world’s most modern system within the next five years. Mr. Shah was speaking after inaugurating the Centre of Excellence of Digital Forensics at National Forensic Science University in Gandhinagar today.

Mr. Shah said the government has brought in drastic changes in the 150-year-old criminal justice system in the country and come up with three new laws. The government has also forensic experts visit compulsory in the investigation of crimes that are more than seven years old. He said to cater to the demand of forensic experts in the criminal justice system, NFSU has been established. He said the new centre of excellence at NFSU will help not only in capacity building but also in investigation.  

The Home Minister also stressed on the application of forensic science beyond investigation and the use of behaviour forensics in preventing crimes. Mr Shah said the government is committed to ensure timely justice and improve the rate of investigation. He said the government is also working on data integration and Artificial intelligence to improve investigation. The Minister said the role of technology will be paramount in addressing the challenges before the Indian criminal and judicial system.
