In a collaborative effort to foster development, delegates from NITI Aayog, led by member Dr. V. K. Saraswat, engaged in a detailed discussion with senior officers of the Tripura government at the state secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting centred on reviewing the progress and implementation of developmental schemes in Tripura.

Dr. V. K. Saraswat commended Tripura’s commendable work in diverse fields, expressing the NITI Aayog’s readiness to provide full cooperation in overcoming challenges faced during developmental programme implementation. Emphasising the importance of public-private partnerships, Saraswat urged state officials to initiate the necessary measures to attract investors.

The Chief Secretary of Tripura, J. K. Sinha, who led the state government delegation, highlighted NITI Aayog’s vital support for the development of North Eastern states, including Tripura. Sinha underscored NITI Aayog’s constructive role in addressing various issues faced by the North Eastern states.

Sinha informed the NITI Aayog delegates about the state’s initiatives towards good governance, including the transition to a paperless system from the secretariat to district offices. He mentioned the introduction of the e-cabinet system and ongoing efforts to enhance digital infrastructure.

Kiran Gitte, the Secretary of the Department of Planning and Coordination, provided a comprehensive overview of Tripura’s demographics, economy, and progress towards sustainable development. Seeking NITI Aayog’s cooperation, Gitte emphasised the removal of port-based restrictions on rubber exports to Bangladesh.

The meeting delved into various topics, including the expansion of trade with Bangladesh, industrial development, bamboo, rubber, agar, and pineapple processing, information technology facilities, and advancements in health services.

Additionally, discussions revolved around the feasibility of establishing an auction centre for tea industry development and the creation of a central smokehouse to enhance rubber quality in the state.

The three-day visit of the NITI Aayog delegation aims to strengthen collaborative initiatives between the Centre and the state for integrated and sustainable development, reflecting a commitment to furthering the progress and prosperity of Tripura.
