In a heartbreaking incident, a family of three was discovered lifeless on their bed on Friday morning in Thakurpara under the jurisdiction of the Melaghar police station. The victims were identified as 70-year-old Chintaharan Paul, 60-year-old Prathiba Paul, and their 20-year-old daughter Manika Paul.

According to Debasish Das, the Officer-in-Charge of Melaghar Police Station, authorities were alerted to the scene, leading them to find the entire family deceased. Initial investigations suggest that the family may have taken their own lives, possibly due to the burden of poverty. The 20-year-old daughter was reported to be specially-abled, which could have contributed to the distress prompting the parents to take this extreme step. The family had previously lost a son many years ago.

Chintaharan Paul, the 70-year-old father, worked as a clay artisan. Police discovered three glasses containing poison, indicating that the family might have consumed a toxic substance mixed with milk on Thursday night before going to bed.

The bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. The police are actively investigating the incident, and further details are expected to emerge with the release of the autopsy report, shedding light on the exact cause of death.
